Police Remove Laptops From Cruisers

from the air-bag-conflict dept

You would think that people would figure this stuff out earlier, but police cruisers in Connecticut are having their laptops removed after it was determined that they were getting in the way of airbags. A few airbags went off, and would knock the laptop off its stand occassionally sending flying laptops into officers in the car. This seems like one of the most obvious things that you would think about before sticking a laptop into a car, but apparently no one considered it. In fact, they admit that just getting the laptops into police cars seemed more important than any safety issues. They quote someone from the department saying, "safety is always the last consideration."

What if police chose not to put laptops in cars? Imagine the outcry, the accusations of backwardness. Things like this do have to evolve one step at a time so the masses can keep up with the reasoning.
