It's About The User, Stupid!

from the redesigning-applications dept

Usability has certainly never been the strong suit of many techies. Here's another good article reminding people why usability is important. It suggests that many tech companies slow down the development of new features, and look to improving end-user usability. Of course, it seems like someone makes a similar pitch every few months. It sounds good, but companies rarely pay attention. In their minds, customers pay for features - not usability. You can sell a company some technology based on the various features, and let them sort out the usability problems later on in the game. Until customers start demanding more usable features, nothing is going to change.

You forgot to classify the article according to the Nielsen factor, i.e. whether or not it mentions Jakob Nielsen :-) In fact this one is Nielsen-negative but it doesn't focus on the Web so I'm not sure whether the classification applies or not.
