Next Jordan Could Be A Gamer?

from the sponsorship-money-growing dept

In the past, we've talked about how videogames are increasingly becoming like professional sports with big tournaments and fans, and even sponsorships. Wired News is running an article looking at just that trend, and pointing out that the prize money is growing and more people are going to the various tournaments as spectators - instead of as participants. In other words, people are interested in watching others play video games - and those running the tournaments are increasingly interested in turning them into spectator sports.

I can't wait for extreme obfuscated Perl coding tournaments, with the losers facing the choice of being thrown to the lions or condemned to using Visual Basic for the rest of their days. Bring on the hacker groupies.
