Record Label Begs Fans To Put Latest Tracks On Pirate Bay To Help Bandwidth Load

Paul Talbot writes "The independent record label Labrador Records has been giving away a 68 track free MP3 sampler to promote their summer material. However, they couldn't cope with the demand. Rather than withdraw the downloads, they've chosen to use a mirror service and are actually asking people to put the content on thepiratebay.org." Yes, there are certainly more independent labels who are learning to embrace file sharing as a great promotional tool, but it's nice to see one clearly finding value in using The Pirate Bay and asking more people to help out. It would certainly go against the RIAA's claims that The Pirate Bay and similar services have no legitimate reason for being in business.

The Pirate Bay and peer to peer services are evil incarnate! I know, the *IAA's tole me so.
It's kind of funny, really. I'll have to check these guys out tomorrow from home while I can grab the album and download it.

150 years ago copyright/patents was a concept, then it became a civil matter to infringe on this concept, now it's an extraditable criminal offence, i hope that one day it will no longer exist...
record companies did not have a business model 150 years ago, with home studios, cd burners and file sharing, lets hope that music returns to being about the music and not how many units the big guys can ship...

ITYM having the fans contribute some (otherwise unused) bandwidth in order to help promote a band they love.

So your complaining that instead of charging you for their music they are asking for a small 'in kind' payment by way of bandwidth?
I might understand your point if this was one of those MPAA sponsored for pay P2P movie services, but this is no charge (tough not necessarily free) content.

Should have put it on giganews, or posibly another one of the major NNTP dealers. Then you'd have the most stable platform to distribute your files from.

The point this promotional album is FREE. so why not put it on pirate bay or limewire. The major companies should adapt the same attitude and Kill off the RIAA.

Yeah I know. Although I adore some of the works that some of them have done I feel sick of all that crap (I couldn't believe DreamWorks were in when I found that out).
I understand it's all about money... I do understand that there is probably no better solution (as Churchill has said, capitalism is the best of the worst).
P2P is like anarchism... Something like Project Mayhem in Fight Club but less harming (although it's harming a lot financially.. Yet I like it).

Masses don't understand what BitTorrent is
I suppose that people consider BitTorrent to be similar to for instance Kazaa and other P2P programs where your bandwith is consumed without proper notice. Well, BitTorrent is a lot different from that: people upload parts of the data that you have already downloaded; when you download everything, you become a "seed", e.g. you have all the parts that may be needed. Every Torrent is an internal network which "hosts" peers interested in downloading the same material as you are.
Oh, and by the way, I find MPAA and RIAA to be one of the most evil things on this piece of rock.
