Is Piracy Really More Important Than The Financial Crisis And Climate Change?

from the priorities,-people dept

Reader Virginia notes that in an announcement concerning European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao meeting to talk about various issues, it seems odd that "piracy" was apparently a priority over both the financial crisis and climate change. You would think that the other issues would be much more important, but the old legacy content industry still has been able to convince politicians that piracy is some huge political problem, rather than a business model issue they could take on, if only they bothered to try.

It is to the polluticians who 'represent' us. It is profitable.

When the world is covered in nuclear fallout, a 1000 year nuclear winter and they will still think that piracy is more important. They are dumb assholes, what do you expect?

It is a well known fact that pirates help cool the planet, what with the sails and all. This is why they are highly regarded by those that follow the FSM. Anti-piracy laws are causing global warming!

"it seems odd that "piracy" was apparently a priority over both the financial crisis and climate change."

Or was "piracy" a diversion so that the conversation would not be about finance or climate change?

I agree that there are financial issues, of which the Government shouldn't stick their noses in, but what Climate Change are they referring too? The Global Cooling that has been going on for the past decade or so? Everyone knows Global Warming has been disproved, it's a fact!

I doubt either are worried about piracy for the sake of commercial enterprise; rather, it's about who gets control of the media.

  • There is piracy and then there is counterfeiting...

and in this case I believe they mean the latter. I.e. producing fake watches, shirts, shoes. Not necessarily anything to do with content industry per se.

At the time of financial crises we need to come together united and try to solve the problems which are responsible for such a hazard. We need to overcome it. It is meant to bring calm to the population and markets and display government strength and stability. As a large number of people spend their money in movies, making films, sports, nowadays even on internet many casinos offer to win a chance to play in a blackjack tournament for the people interested in gambling but there people lose a large sum of money there in such stuffs which should be minimized as the world is going through a phase where a little wastage of money could be matter of remorse.
