Ricochet As A Public Utility

from the interesting-plans... dept

So, now that Aerie Networks finally bought the Ricochet Network it what was described as "tortured" negotiations, they've announced their plans for Ricochet. They want to partner with local governments to offer it as a utility. That's right. If Aerie can do what they want to do, you'll soon be able to buy your wireless Ricochet service from your local government. I'm not sure they're going to be able to convince many governments to go along with this plan, but it will be interesting to watch. Sewer, gas, electric, and... ricochet. It would certainly solve the problem of getting local government permission to use pole-tops.
