Trial Near In Patent Case On Internet Transaction Technology

It seems that it's not another day here at Techdirt where we don't hear about some sort of silly patent claim. The latest, from the NY Times, concerns a guy in Florida who claims he owns the patents for any sort of online authentication or secure communication with customers. He's been suing just about everyone, saying that SSL (the security used by just about anyone doing any transactions online) violates his patent. A number of companies have given up and paid him millions of dollars, but VeriSign and RSA have refused. The case is likely to go to trial soon.
