Failures

Failures

MusicNow? Not Yet.

from the they'll-never-learn dept

It's fairly stunning that the music industry still doesn't understand how they're destroying their own business by not embracing technology and giving consumers what they want. Despite other major label-backed ventures not finding success, yet another "official" music downloading service has launched with all the same ridiculous restrictions that will guarantee failure. Of course, the music industry, instead of realizing that they're offering terrible services, will instead complain to the government that it's services like Kazaa that (gasp!) offer people what they want, which are destroying their business. I realize that I rant about this issue quite often, but stories like this make it clear that the industry simply doesn't get it. Music sharing isn't going away. Embracing the technology and giving consumers what they want is the only strategy that makes sense. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to take a new generation of music labels to make that happen.
