Court Blocks Security Conference Talk

More "chilling effects" from bad technology laws. It appears that some security researchers have been barred from giving a talk on their findings about security holes in the system from Blackboard that is used on a number of college campuses. Blackboard, rather than just admitting there were security holes in their system that needed to be fixed, accused the researchers of obtaining the information illegally. While some had originally thought this was a DMCA issue, it appears that the ruling was based on state "anti-hacking" laws - since the information was determined after one of the researchers hacked into Blackboard's system. Blackboard, rather than fixing the system and thanking these researchers for finding the hole, will instead pretend that by shutting them up their system is suddenly safe.
