Americans See Downloading Akin To Jaywalking

from the minor-crimes dept

A new study has found that most Americans aren’t quite so ridiculous as Senator Hatch. Instead of believing that computers should be destroyed for downloading music, they see it as being akin to a minor offense, like jaywalking. They don’t think people should be prosecuted for listening to music they like. This reminded me of a quote I saw the other day (apparently from George Gilder) saying: “When your product is stolen by thieves, you have a police problem. When it is stolen by millions of honest customers, you have a marketing problem.” The music industry needs to come to terms with the fact that they’re doing everything possible to lose music fans.
