Net Access Comes As Standard In The UK

from the must-supply dept

New rules in the UK say that the phone companies need to offer phone lines capable of providing dial-up internet access at speeds of 28.8 kbps. If customers can't get online at such speeds, the phone companies will be required to fix things. It will be interesting to see if they keep increasing the speed, and how long it will take until high speed internet access is a requirement.

Considering 28.8 modems came out over 10 years ago, I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for that requirement on the high speed access.
