Camera Phone User Faces Contempt Charge

from the had-to-happen dept

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. With all the stories of people banning mobile phones here, there, and everywhere, someone was going to get caught breaking the rules. Over in Scotland, someone is being charged with contempt of court for using a mobile phone to snap pictures while being sentenced for driving without insurance. The article is a little unclear, but it sounds like the person who was sentenced gave her phone to some friends who actually snapped the pictures - though, it's the owner of the phone who's getting charged.

  1. Judges Lords of their Court

    by Anonymous Coward - Aug 1st, 2003 @ 8:22am

I dunno about Scotland, but here in the U.S. a judge can pretty much decide anything that goes on in the court room. They can charge you with contempt for everything from clothing (shorts, etc.) to even reading a newspaper (in traffic court the baliff actually warned us NO READING IN THE COURT - I guess if we were getting off without a fine, we had to bear the boredom as our punishment)
