UK Websites Going Into National Archive

from the sounds-like-a-big-project dept

Over in the UK, legislation has been passed to preserve UK websites in the National Archive. Sounds like a huge, but worthwhile project. It’s a little unclear how they’re going to go about this (or even if they know how they’re going to go about this), but it would seem like the sort of thing where it would make sense to team up with someone like Brewster Kahle who’s already working on similar projects for the Internet Archive. Part of the deal in making this happen was that publishers agreed that timely information (that often costs money) will be available after a three month period. In other words, financial info that normally is hidden will become available in this archive after it’s no longer so timely.
