Smartphones Too Smart?

from the too-much dept

Echoing yesterday's anecdotal story about mobile phones with too many useless features comes this study saying that smart phone adoption is slow, in part, because the phones are too complex for people to understand. People are quickly getting frustrated because they have no idea how the phones work. Customers bought the smart phones on purpose, knowing they had special features, but quickly get annoyed because accessing the special features is anything but intuitive. Related to this is the fact that many smart phone owners are upset by the support they get for the phones - once they know what features are available, they can't get them to work. Is this the modern version of the VCR that always blinks 12:00? People are going to end up buying smart phones and never using them for anything other than talking.
