Dumped By SMS

from the harsh dept

Well, we've already had plenty of stories of people fired by SMS, but it appears that getting dumped by SMS is much more popular. 9% of people in the UK claim they've dumped someone via text message. And, as you get younger (the 15 to 24 age demographic), the percentage rises to 20%. Ouch. The article quotes a kid saying that it's fairly standard practice among teens who want to avoid the painful breakup conversation in person. It does make you wonder what impact this will have later in life on people - as they are learning to hide behind technology when it comes time to take on unpleasant tasks.

Isn't that what technology is for?

    by Garth

I'm not saying I condone breaking up over SMS, but isn't technology there to do things for us that we don't want to do? I mean, I don't like cleaning toilets, so if I got an automated toilet cleaner, I'd gladly use it. This is just the beginning.

    SMS isn't enough.

I prefer to send an MMS picture of me throwing dog poop on her shoes.

Don't forget to include the caption "I break with thee, I break with thee, I break with thee".

The type of person that cowardly uses technology to avoid human interaction will one day deservedly find themselves with nothing but technology to interact with.

    Cowards, start your vibrators.

I'm sure that some time in the past, someone decried the increasing practise of breaking up over this new technology called the telephone.
