DVD Streaming Company Tries To Skirt Rules

from the yeah,-that's-won't-work dept

A Dutch company that is trying to offer streaming videos of DVDs claims that they can do this without authorization from the movie studios because they're doing the same exact thing as a movie rental shop. They basically say that they're shipping a legal "personal copy" (allowed under Dutch law) to a user's set-top box which they watch and then "return." Chances are this is unlikely to fly in court, and it won't take long for the entertainment industry's lawyers to come knocking.
