Vint Cerf Wants Standardized Email Authentication

from the everybody-get-together-now dept

If you hadn't received the message yet (perhaps because it was lost in all that spam), email sender authentication is coming. The only problem is that too many companies are implementing it in too many different ways. Now, even Vint Cerf, who apparently believes public floggings of spammers are the best possible solution (he was probably joking, but I'm sure many would support this sort of punishment), is saying that everyone needs to get together on a single email authentication standard. Of course, there still is some concern that switching to authenticated email will break certain internet applications. However, it's pretty clear that much of our basic email is now broken anyway. As long as people are aware that changes will need to be made, authenticated email sounds like a step in the right direction.
