Social Network Helps Newspaper Fake Man On The Street Reports

It looks like one newspaper has come up with a new use for all those social network systems out there: using them to find photos of people for fake "man in the street" interviews. TheOnion, of course, has faked these kinds of interviews for years. However, as News.com points out, some reporters for a newspaper in North Carolina appeared to have combed through their acquaintances on TheFacebook.com and, rather than actually interviewing them, made up quotes to put in the newspaper along with their photos. It's really just another case of journalistic laziness and faking quotes -- but with a nice social networking angle.

Next time use pictures that people can't easily track down you lazy bastards. Yes, readers actually check reports. No, they don't assume everything the media prints is gospel.
