Feds Indict Porn Spammers

A federal grand jury in Arizona has indicted four spammers suspected of sending out hundreds of millions of sexually explicit spam messages for violating the CAN SPAM act and on obscenity and money-laundering charges. The spam charges seem to revolve around the fact that the people took steps to mask their identity and the make it harder for recipients and law enforcement to identify, locate or respond to them, making it sound like if they hadn't done this and followed the FTC's spam guidelines, their spam would have been perfectly legal -- highlighting one of the main objections to CAN SPAM. Granted, the other charges would still remain, but this indictment, along with the trickle of convictions is just a reminder that CAN SPAM really hasn't done anything to cut down on spam.

Do you want to upset law enforcement?
If they wanted to, they could come up with charges against you, seize your computers, and tear it to shreds to look for "evidence", without having to compensate. Many a boat owner or motorist has learned the hard way not to snub their noses at cops.
