More Marketers Realizing eBay Is A PR Platform Too

from the oh,-look-at-that... dept

It's been nearly two years since we pointed out that savvy (or, depending on your viewpoint, sleazy) marketers were using eBay not just as a commerce platform, but as a marketing and PR platform as well. That is, they would use eBay to sell something weird or different, and the press would write up all these stories about this "weird" item on eBay driving up the price (and maybe interest in something else). It appears that someone at USA Today has just realized the same thing and has written an article listing out some of the more recent eBay-as-marketing-platform stunts that have been pulled. Of course, ever since that original posting, I've been (incorrectly, obviously) expecting eBay's status as a PR platform to decline. Just how many stories can the press write about nutty items on eBay? Apparently plenty, as long as a certain online casino keeps buying up every such nutty auction. Oh look, there they go again.
