Vietnamese Government Creates Own Porn Site To Help Save Marriages?

Vietnam is definitely up there on the list of countries that has pretty strict regulations concerning online content. Years back, they started down this path by requiring websites to register with the government -- which just so happened to allow them to stop some online critics from speaking out. While they've struggled at times to manage the growth of the internet while still blocking any content they find objectionable, they've delegated some of the work to local governments and asked citizens to report any bad info they see online (an early example of crowdsourcing, perhaps?). Of course, while most of the focus has been on stopping any sort of political dissent, porn is another important issue. The Vietnamese government, not surprisingly, bans porn websites.
However, it seems that may have resulted in a bit of a problem. Married couples aren't having enough sex -- often leading to divorce and/or increased prostitution. At least, that's what the government claims. To fix this problem, the Vietnamese government has decided there's only one thing it can do: produce its own government-approved porn -- and hope that it puts married couples back into the mood. Of course, they don't call it "porn." No, it's an "orthodox sex website" that will "help couples learn more about healthy sexual intercourse." The government insists that the videos on the site will only be "educational" in nature, which doesn't necessarily mean very much. It is, of course, quite likely that these videos will be incredibly tame, if they're even remotely sexual at all. The videos may end up being typical sex ed videos -- though it's difficult to see how that will encourage the married couple who hasn't had sex in a year (which the gov't official cited as being a big problem) to get it on. You have to imagine that such a couple has other issues to work out than how to make sure their intercourse is "healthy."

The country is producing too many people anyway. Vietnam's main export, asides from housemaids and hoodlums, is low-quality rice full of gravel that Chinese feed to their animals, since no human in China would eat it. The country's traditional writing system was a dumbed-down Chinese, with more pronunciation marks added to it, a kind of Chinese for Dummies. The French imposed their crazy writing system with diacritical marks flying all over it like jungle flies. The Vietnamese obsession with decency comes from their desire to prove that they are not Hmongs. It's like some other Eastern European countries where people obsess over decency and plainness, to prove that they are not Gypsies. If you want a Vietnamese to kill you, try pronouncing his name as "Vang".

Please let me explain a few things before we continue the slam dorpus thread. I have been reading a lot of her responses lately and know the problem. She suffers from low self esteem due to neglect as a child, and therefore craves attention. That is the reason for all the derogatory remarks regarding race, religion, and geographical location, etc. There are also signs of possible weight and or gender issues. Any response to her postings is just the attention she needs and therefore will continue this practice of inflammatory posting. I can only feel bad for this person, or anyone like her that has to endure such suffering. In conclusion, do not take her postings personal, they are just the result of years of abuse.

Maybe they should try feeding their people and freeing them some so that they are free to persue their ambitions and make something of themselves.
if I lived in a country where the government was so oppressive, I don't think I would want to bring anymore kids into the world. Not to mention, when you're working 14 hours a day in the rice fields, there's not much time for sex, much less web surfing.
I feel for the people of the world who live under overly controlling governments, it is the most powerful force with driving mankind to it's lowest level. Anymore, it seems like control and slaving fellow man is an agenda of almost every government, to one degree or another.

That would imply that they are more superior than someone or something, begging the question "what are they more superior than?" I believe what you would need to say is that you are superior TO them. And you don't need to say MORE superior. That is like saying extremely historical. It is either historical or it is not. You are either superior (which in this case I doubt) or you are not.

It could be that Vietnam suffers from mass psychosis, as every deformed baby born in Vietnam is blamed on "Agent Orange". International medical investigators have been happy to cooperate, asking for tissue samples from deformed babies, but the Vietnamese government has curiously refused to provide samples. In reality, the deformed babies are born because of inbreeding, poor folic acid, rubella, and other reasons common in stone-age countries.
Or maybe that Agent Orange did get to their heads, hmmm...

Yep, the idea of a government run "porn" site to “promote better marital relations” is probably a misguided approach to fixing the symptoms of a greater societal problem. But what is your source regarding domestic violence being committed by the husbands, and how it is currently being ignored or allowed to carry on without intervention from anyone or the local authorities. Perhaps that may be something that has been an issue in the past, but I just don't see that happening there today from my recent visits to Vietnam and frequent updates from friends living in Saigon now.

As a recent visitor to Vietnam on a purely familial basis,infact to help adopt a child for a friend.I was the male element in order to give credibility to my friend. I noticed the men eager to succeed and aquire money,but not for the same reasons as western men.these men have been down trodden and exploited for centuries by many,and the first thing they do is treat the women with restraint,ashamed that they have allowed this to happen.I think that if they could start by forgiving themselves and then building a real social sense of belonging,then the old rules and traditions will steadily fade.The orphanages are full of this social guilt.They are just copying really bad western capitalist anus orientated wash! wow! just don't talk of you don't know, learn to listen is harder than to talk. the government is bad, ok. everyone know that. why you guy so worked up over this? wikipedia have a bunchs of articles about sexual stuff, so what? ok, they don't have sex education video, or classes, instead they make website. big deal.
secondly, not that people care since who want to learn vietnamese anyway, but i just want to point out that the language is freaking hard to master. everyone think another languages with different alphabet is hard, well, do you think that the chinese think english is hard to learn? common sense people, it more than alphabet, it's gramma that make it hard. the reason why english consider the easiest language to learn( not to master) is because it focus more on vocabulary and less on gramma.

Sorry but I don't think the article is correct. I am a Vietnamese myself and there is no such thing as a government-based porn site. Also, our language is not simplified Chinese. We follow the latin system. In fact, Vietnam is too overpopulated that the government encourages its people to have less kids. The limit is 2 children per family right now. There is a very high chance that it will be cut down to 1 per family. So, please verify your information before writing up such articles. It reflects badly on the country and people there. Even though, I don't live in Vietnam but my origin urges me to ward off such offensive acts.

I'm an Australian born Viet, i learnt it from scratch and i gotta say Vietnamese is a very easy language to learn, easier than many languages and definitely easier than English. Every word is pronounced as it is written/spelt. Each symbol is an indication of a certain tone.
Of course im just talking about pronunciation, but if u compare it to English where -plough,enough, and though- all have the same ending letters but have 3 completely different ways of pronouncing it u can see which is easier to learn.
And all that crap by dorpus, u think reading sum articles means that ur "superior" to us? Think again.
Altho u are correct in saying that Vietnam has some way to go to improving, it is the governments fault for hindering its progress. Do not put it on the people.

I am an American from Georgia and have visited Vietnam many times and 2 years ago married a beutiful woman there and there F'ed up goverment will not let her leave her contry where she would be provided better living conditions, health care and food.
