Wireless Carriers Soon May Lease Airwaves
The FCC is apparently preparing to let wireless carriers that own surplus spectrum lease their unused portions to other carriers. For forty years this practice has been banned, as some fear that the lessees wil use the spectrum irresponsibly, and cause interference. However, most of those worries seem to have subsided - or have been pushed away for other reasons. As the article points out, this may not have much of an impact in the near-future, as there really isn't that much surplus spectrum to go around these days.
