How Much Government Support Is There For Wireless?
from the not-as-much-as-you-might-think dept
With all the overhyped talk concerning Philadelphia (and other cities) plans to enable WiFi all around the city, it looks like local governments still aren't that interested in backing wireless initiatives. A new study shows that most WiFi clouds and zones are not supported by government initiatives. I don't see why this is at all surprising. Just because some governments see it as beneficial, that doesn't mean private operations don't see the potential as well. In fact, the finding would have been much more surprising if it had gone the other way. Also, the study only looks at present WiFi zones and clouds, which is a very small sample size. If a lot of cities find that these offerings do good things for business (the main reason local governments implement them), then you can bet lots of others will quickly follow suit.
