Another Court Tosses Out NCR's Patent Claims Against Palm

from the good-decision dept

Two and a half years ago, a struggling NCR decided that they held a patent on every handheld device, because they once patented a concept called the “portable personal terminal” which was not designed to be used in any way like a PDA. Last year a judge thought so and tossed out the case saying it had “no merit”. NCR (what else are they going to do?) appealed, and now NCR has been slapped down a second time. The court agreed with the original ruling and dismissed the case. Of course, that’s only one of a few silly patent claims against Palm from anyone who has a patent that might possibly be related to a “small” computer. These sorts of time and money wasting cases are just going to continue until our patent system is reformed.
