Penn State Napster Launches

from the does-anyone-care? dept

Penn State has gone ahead and launched their own version of Napster, where on-campus students will have very limited access to streaming music for free. However, if they dare go off campus or want to, say, burn their music and listen to it somewhere besides their computer – they’ll have to pay up. This has already angered some students who feel their money is being wasted on a useless system they don’t want. More importantly, it’s unlikely to do anything to stop music sharing. Sure, plenty of students will use it while on campus (why not? it’s free!), but it’s so limited that it will just give them more reasons to explore other solutions that don’t tie them down with restrictions.
